The wonderful collaboration between Neko Case, k.d. lang and Laura Veirs continues to bear fruit in the lead-up to their eponymous album release via Anti Records on 17 June. 'Honey and Smoke', which follows its gorgeous predecessors 'Atomic Number' and 'Best Kept Secret', is a swooning, soulful ballad that showcases Lang's typically, and suitably, honeyed vocal, as it floats along with understandable assurance from a trio with such quality and experience. It's a smokier, more alluring outing for case/lang/veirs and serves as the latest piece of evidence that the accompanying full-length is set to be a rare indie folk treat. -G.O'B
